All prospective students of art and education fields should check out the criteria for our two scholarship opportunities: the James River Ball Audrey Eliades Memorial Scholarship endowed through the John Randolph Foundation, and the James River Ball Patrons Committee Scholarship honoring patron educators. James River Ball Patrons Committee Scholarship Honoring Patron Educators
Founded in 2024
​
The purpose of this scholarship is to honor patron educators by promoting continuing education for persons pursuing a career in the field of education by awarding a $2,500 scholarship for attendance at an institution of higher education to individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community involvement, and attend Hopewell City Public Schools.
The application for this scholarship will be available in mid December through the James River Ball Patrons Committee website.

2024 Scholarship Recipient: Emelyn Franco Giron
Emelyn Franco Giron a Hopewell High School 2024 graduate Attending Virginia Tech in the fall to study journalism/communications

2023 Scholarship Recipient: Azhane Pollard
Azhane plans to continue studying English at UVA with a concentration in poetry writing and double major in sociology. She hopes to publish her poetry and share it with the Hopewell Community where she grew up. She would like to eventually become a professor and hold poetry workshops to keep the gift of poetry alive for future generations.

2022 Scholarship Recipient: Rylie Barnett
Rylie will be majoring in early childhood education at Longwood University, with plans to return to Hopewell and work at Woodlawn Learning Center.
About Audrey Eliades
Audrey Eliades raised her 4 children in the City of Hopewell where she taught school and later served as chairman of the Hopewell School Board. Audrey had a passion for the arts and was a founding patron of the James River Ball. She passed away in September 1995. This scholarship was founded to assist a student who has a similar passion for education and the arts.
